Add CrazyBot to WordPress
Install our plugin, paste your bot's embed code once, and the AI chat appears on every page — no theme editing, and it survives theme updates.
Before you start
| WordPress | Version 5.8 or newer, self-hosted (WordPress.org) — or WordPress.com on the Business plan or higher |
| PHP | 7.4 or newer (every current host meets this) |
| Your account | An administrator login for the site |
| A CrazyBot bot | Create one in the dashboard first — the plugin only shows it; you build and edit the conversation in CrazyBot |
Works with any theme and page builder (Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg, WPBakery, Astra, …) and with WooCommerce.
1. Install the plugin
- 1
Download the plugin zip — from the button above or in CrazyBot open your bot → Share → WordPress. Keep it as a .zip; don't unzip it.
- 2
In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin at the top.
- 3
Click Choose File, pick crazybot-chat-wordpress.zip and click Install Now.
- 4
Click Activate Plugin. A notice “CrazyBot is installed — connect your bot” appears until you finish step 2.
2. Connect your bot
- 1
In CrazyBot open your bot →
Share and click
Copy on the embed code. It looks like:
<script src="https://crazybot.crezvatic.com/widget/chatbot.js" data-bot-id="YOUR-BOT-ID"></script>
- 2
In WordPress go to Settings → CrazyBot.
- 3
Paste the code into Embed code or Bot ID (just the Bot ID works too) and click Save Changes.
- 4
You'll see a green “Connected to bot …” message.
3. Check it works
- 1
On the settings page click “Test on your site (no real leads) →”. Your site opens with the chat bubble in the corner. Test mode never saves leads or sends alerts.
- 2
Using a caching plugin (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache, Autoptimize…)? Clear its cache so visitors get the updated pages.
- 3
If your bot is limited to certain websites (bot → Settings → Allowed domains), add this site's domain there.
Tip: you can add ?lbtest=1 to any page address to open the chat in test mode.
Settings explained
All in Settings → CrazyBot:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|
| Embed code or Bot ID | Which bot to show. Paste a new code any time to switch bots; leave it empty to keep the current one. |
| On every page of this site | Turns the chat on or off without uninstalling. |
| Hide while logged in as administrator | Keeps the chat out of your way while you edit the site. Visitors still see it. |
| Don't show on | One rule per line: a page path (/checkout), a whole section (/shop/*), or a page/post ID (42). |
| Server | Filled in from the embed code. Only change it if your CrazyBot runs on a different address. |
Without the plugin
Prefer not to install a plugin? Install the free WPCodeplugin (or use your theme's “footer scripts” box), open Code Snippets → Header & Footer, paste the embed code in Footerand save. Avoid editing your theme'sfooter.php — a theme update would remove it.
Update or remove
Update to a new version
Download the latest zip, then Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose it. WordPress asks to Replace current with uploaded — confirm. Your settings are kept.
Remove
Plugins → Installed Plugins → CrazyBot → Deactivate (chat disappears, settings kept) → Delete (settings removed too). Your bot, leads and conversations stay safe in CrazyBot.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | Fix |
|---|
| No chat bubble | Clear your caching plugin (and CDN, e.g. Cloudflare) cache. Check “On every page of this site” is ticked, the page isn't in “Don't show on”, and you didn't tick “Hide while logged in” — try a private window. |
| Bubble shows but the bot doesn't reply | The bot's Allowed domains doesn't include this site. Add the domain (with and without www if you use both). |
| “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/…” | Your server can't write to wp-content. Ask your host to fix the folder permissions, or upload the unzipped crazybot-chat folder to wp-content/plugins/ by FTP / File Manager and activate it. |
| “The link you followed has expired” | Your host's upload limit is too small — install by FTP as above, or ask the host to raise it. |
| “Destination folder already exists” | An older copy is installed. Delete it in Plugins first, or use the “Replace current” option. |
| WordPress asks for FTP details | Your host requires FTP for plugin installs — enter the details from your hosting panel, or upload by FTP directly. |
| No “Upload Plugin” button | You're not an administrator, or the site is on WordPress.com below the Business plan. |
| “That doesn't look like a CrazyBot embed code” | Copy the code again from the bot's Share tab — the whole <script …></script> line, or only the Bot ID. |
Data & privacy
The plugin only adds the chat script to your pages; it doesn't read your posts, users or WooCommerce orders. When visitors chat, their messages and anything they type (name, email, phone…) go to CrazyBot to reply and to save leads for you. Mention the chat in your site's privacy policy. Details: CrazyBot privacy policy.
FAQ
Do I need to reinstall when I change the bot?
No. Edit the flow, wording, colours or AI in CrazyBot — changes appear on your site immediately.
Can I use different bots on different pages?
The plugin shows one bot site-wide. For a different bot on some pages, exclude those pages here and add the other bot's embed code to them with a Custom HTML block.
Does it slow my site down?
No — the chat script loads at the end of the page with defer, after your content.
Does it work on multisite?
Yes — activate it per site and connect a bot on each site's Settings → CrazyBot.
Will it work with my cookie-consent plugin?
Yes. If your consent tool blocks third-party scripts until consent, add CrazyBot to its allowed or 'functional' list.
